Year 4 Homework
Date set: 2.12.16
Date Due in:
9.12.16
Reading (every day)
Please write in your reading diary
when you have read.
Maths (20mins):
Our topic this week is problem
solving. Maths homework will be posted on the Mathletics website. Please ask
your teacher for a paper copy if you need one or if you have trouble logging
on. Please also practise your times tables up to 12 x 12.
Blogging (20minutes):
We would like you to write a short
(3-4 paragraphs) report about our trip to Kew Steam Museum. You could include:
- The Water Cycle workshop
- Puzzling properties workshop
- Splash zone
- Waterworks gallery
- Materials trial
Please try to focus on what you found
out, rather than who you sat next to or what you had for lunch!
Christmas Concert:
You should now know all of the words
to the carols and your lines off by heart. If you do not, please make sure that
you know them by Monday (5th December).
Spellings (20mins) should be practised for a short time each day, using the
words given in sentences.
You need to:
• look at each word
• say the word
• copy the word in first space
• cover the words and try to write it
from memory
• check to see if they are right

The water cycle workshop was when we had to draw a word like precipitation condensation collection and evaporation and we had to draw what the word means on a paper plate.
ReplyDeleteThe puzzling properties were when we had to match items to liquid, gas and soilds so for example if we had a brick we try and match it to liquid gas or solid so it will be solid.
The splash zone is where we can play with cold water. There was ice that we could play with too. And the pieces were so so big, they were bigger than my hand almost.
The water cycle gallery has a rat in a little tunnel. There were things that we could touch and play with. There were things that we could choose from like plain water or water that has a fish in it so I chose the fish water because the plain water may have bacteria in it .
Water and Steam Museum Trip
ReplyDeleteWater cycle workshop
In the water cycle workshop, we talked about how the water cycle works and what it is. Also, we made our own water cycles by using 2 plates,1 split pin, some crayons and a pair of scissors. First, we cut a hole on the edge of 1 paper plate so after we put our split pin through so we will be able to write our words. Next, we held the two paper plates together and we pierced a little hole in the middle and we put our split pin through. After that, in the hole that we made earlier we wrote the word precipitation and next we rotated it quarter clockwise and we wrote collection, evaporation and condensation. Finally, we decorated the plate and we put our name on the back of the plate.
Puzzling Properties Workshop
In the puzzling properties workshop we played a game with cards. There were cards that said: brick; you can build a house out of me and Water; you can drink me. One person has to hold the cards, while the other person holds the sheet of paper. The person with the sheet of paper has to work out the object on their partner's card is a solid, liquid, or gas by asking the questions on the sheet of paper they were holding. from this very interesting game, I have learnt that not all things are the same material, they can be solids, liquids or gasses.
Splash Zone
The splash zone was very very fun. We played with icicles, icebergs and magnets and all sorts of fun things. we also fixed pipes to stop the water from going one to the other side of the splash zone and also, we had magnet blocks to block the water. From the very extremely fun splash zone I have learnt that there are lots of pipes that contain water underground.
Waterworks gallery
In the Waterworks gallery, we saw lots and lots of interesting pumps and machines. I tried pumping all of them. Some of them were hard to pump and some of them were very easy to pump. My favourite type of pump was a pump with two handles and when you pump it water comes out in a bucket. from this adventurous gallery, I have learnt that there is only 1% of drinking water in the whole wide world, so we have to use water very carefully.
Materials trial
The materials trial was very fun. We had to pair up and we had a sheet of paper with pictures of different machines on it. We had to find the machines and write what colour they were, what material they were and what uses they can be. From this very very fun trial I have learnt that every material is very extremely different.
BY SHREYA
When we went to the London Museum of Water and Steam we had lots of fun and exercise. The different things that we did were: The Water Cycle workshop, The Puzzling Properties workshop, The Splash Zone, The Waterworks gallery and the Materials Trail. There were free things but sadly we weren't allowed to take them!
ReplyDeleteWe entered the museum and found ourselves in the steam hall. The guides talked to us and we then went to the Water Cycle workshop. We were taught about the four different stages: precipitation, collection, evaporation and condensation. We made a paper plate explaining the water cycle but we didn't have time to complete it. Next we went to the puzzling properties workshop and were told to work in pairs. The task was to figure out what object our partner was talking about. These objects could be solids, liquids or gases.
After lunch we went to the splash zone! There were two opposing levers; when one was pulled from left to right water, spurted out everywhere! When the other one was moved forwards and backwards, water went very high! We also learnt how to make aqauducts. There was a section where water continuously ran and there were bridges that could be taken off and put back on. The water then ran over the bridges.
The next gallery was the waterworks gallery where there were a lot of pumps. The pumps represented Victorian sewage. A robotic rat was hidden in a tunnel behind glass which was used to make us feel as if we were in a sewer (and to scare people a lot!)
Our final stop was the materials trail. We were given a worksheet with pictures and we had to try and find them in the museum. The other task was to fill up an empty resevoir. We just managed to fill it up using 3 levers pushing them up and down. However it took a long time because we first had to fill a 30cm pipe!
We returned to school and we went back to class. We finished making our paper plates that we made in the water cycle workshop. In the end the day was very busy and fun too.
KEW BRIDGE MUSUM
ReplyDeleteIn the water cycle workshop we made a water cycle contraption and first it's precipitation where the water falls from the clouds. Next its collection or run off when it gets collected by a lake, after it is evaporation which goes up like steam when it's a hot day. Condensation is when the water cools down and falls like water again.
The puzzling properties game waswhen you had to guess the cards your partner, and it could be only solid, liquid and gas.
The splash zone is the best because there water and stuff to use like pipes and bridge parts and you can also block the water.
The water cycle workshop was where we learnt about the four stages, precipitation, collection, evaporation and condensation. And we were learning about the three states of matter which are solids, liquid and gas.Precipitation mean when the water falls.Next Collection is where the water gets collected.Evaporation is where the water turns into steam when the sun is out.And finally Condensation is when the steam is cooled down and falls like water again.
ReplyDeleteIn the splash zone there were loads of thing we have to use to make the water works. In the zone there were ice there and makes you very cold. The water in the splash zone was really cold as well.
The workshops museum was the whole museum. We had to find all the things that are in this museum. We saw a real life goldfish and it was moving. When we find the things we have to write all about it what color is it and you can write other thing you can see.
