Please write in your reading diary when you have read. You will have been allocated a Bug Club book to read at home, which will be different to the one that you are reading in school. Check with your teacher if you are not sure which one is which. Don’t forget to answer the ‘bugs’- look out for them on each page! Please don’t “close” the book until all the bugs have been answered.

 

Maths (20mins):

Our topic this week is multiplication. Maths work will be posted on Mathletics, if you have any problems accessing this work please speak to the teacher for a paper copy.

 

Please also practise your times tables. This week I need to practise my ___ x tables.

 

Blog:

This week we have been starting a new unit about adventure stories. We have learnt an extract from Harry Potter called Harry Potter and the Mountain Troll.  For your homework this week, we would like you to write a description of the mountain troll on the blog. Use the information from the text that we have learnt and add your own detail (use your imagination).

Minimum 100 words.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Spellings (20mins):

Literacy (20 mins):

One of the National Curriculum objectives for Year Four is to prepare poems to read aloud. This week we would like you to choose one of the short poems below and practise it, ready for a performance next week (we will perform them in class on Friday). We will post some tips about performance poems on the blog for you to read. Try to learn at least part of your poem off by heart. If you can learn the whole poem off by heart, even better.

Slowly

Slowly the tide creeps up the sand,

Gran Can You Rap?

Gran was in her chair she was taking a nap

When I tapped her on the shoulder to see if she could rap.

Gran can you rap? Can you rap? Can you Gran?

And she opened one eye and she said to me, Man,

I'm the best rapping Gran this world's ever seen

I'm a tip-top, slip-slap, rap-rap queen.

And she rose from the chair in the corner of the room

And she started to rap with a bim-bam-boom,

And she rolled up her eyes and she rolled round her head

And as she rolled by this is what she said,

I'm the best rapping gran this world's ever seen

I'm a nip-nap, yip-yap, rap-rap queen.

Then she rapped past my Dad and she rapped past my mother,

She rapped past me and my little baby brother.

She rapped her arms narrow she rapped her arms wide,

She rapped through the door and she rapped outside.

Adventures of Isabel
Isabel met an enormous bear,
Isabel, Isabel, didn’t care;
The bear was hungry, the bear was ravenous,
The bear’s big mouth was cruel and cavernous.
The bear said, Isabel, glad to meet you,
How do, Isabel, now I’ll eat you!
Isabel, Isabel, didn’t worry.
Isabel didn’t scream or scurry.
She washed her hands and she straightened her hair up,
Then Isabel quietly ate the bear up.

Jim

There was a Boy whose name was Jim;

His Friends were very good to him.

They gave him Tea, and Cakes, and Jam,

And slices of delicious Ham,

And Chocolate with pink inside

And little Tricycles to ride,

And read him Stories through and through,

And even took him to the Zoo—

But there it was the dreadful Fate

Befell him, which I now relate.

You know—or at least you ought to know,

For I have often told you so—

That Children never are allowed

To leave their Nurses in a Crowd;

Now this was Jim's especial Foible,

He ran away when he was able,

And on this inauspicious day

He slipped his hand and ran away!

He hadn't gone a yard when—Bang!

With open Jaws, a lion sprang,

And hungrily began to eat

The Boy: beginning at his feet.

Now, just imagine how it feels

When first your toes and then your heels,

And then by gradual degrees,

Your shins and ankles, calves and knees,

Are slowly eaten, bit by bit.

No wonder Jim detested it!

No wonder that he shouted ``Hi!''

The Honest Keeper heard his cry,

Though very fat he almost ran

To help the little gentleman.

``Ponto!'' he ordered as he came

(For Ponto was the Lion's name),

``Ponto!'' he cried, with angry Frown,

``Let go, Sir! Down, Sir! Put it down!''

The Lion made a sudden stop,

He let the Dainty Morsel drop,

And slunk reluctant to his Cage,

Snarling with Disappointed Rage.

But when he bent him over Jim,

The Honest Keeper's Eyes were dim.

The Lion having reached his Head,

The Miserable Boy was dead!

When Nurse informed his Parents, they

Were more Concerned than I can say:—

His Mother, as She dried her eyes,

Said, ``Well—it gives me no surprise,

He would not do as he was told!''

His Father, who was self-controlled,

Bade all the children round attend

To James's miserable end,

And always keep a-hold of Nurse

For fear of finding something worse.
