Literacy (20mins): Flotsam by David Wiesner

For our book week topic we have been looking at the book ‘Flotsam’. In the story some mysterious photographs are found by a boy on the beach. We have practised retelling this story using expression and varying the intonation to convey the meaning. For your homework, we would like you retell the story to somebody at home. So that we know that you have completed this homework, please ask them to fill in the form which was attached to this homework.

Bug Club Competition:

Please see the information on the newsletter.

Spellings:

These should be practised for a short time each day, using the words given in sentences.

You need to:

 • look at each word

• say the word

• copy the word in first space

• cover the words and try to write it from memory

• check to see if they are right

This week your spellings all contain the ea sound. Look up the meanings and try to use them in a sentence.

My child____________________________ has completed their Literacy homework and retold the story of Flotsam to me orally.

Our new history topic after half term will be The Mayans (250AD – 900AD). You should have completed your research last week, so this week’s homework is to begin making your information booklet. This can be typed, or handwritten, but the information must be in your own words, not copied.

Please include:
- A brief introduction to where and when the Mayans lived.
http://media.web.britannica.com/eb-media/01/147901-004-7CE3E91A.jpg- What transport the Mayans used.
- How the Mayans communicated eg. Writing, drama, ceremonies.
- What it would have been like to live in the Mayan time.

Here are a few useful websites to get you started:

Please remember to stay safe when searching online.

The booklet is due in after half term (24/2/17).
