logging on.
Please also practise your times tables.
I need to practise my ____ x table.
Literacy
(20mins): Brave Rowland
Our new literacy topic is ‘Stories with mythical creatures or events’.
This week we have been learning the story of Brave Rowland. We have practised
the tradition of oral story telling in class.
For your homework this week, we would like you practise orally retelling
the story to somebody at home. Ideally, your story should take 5-10 minutes to
tell, and you practise telling it 2 or 3 times until you are able to retell the
story confidently, without long pauses.
Remember the basics of the story are:
- Chapter 1 – Opening – introduce characters. A character (Lady Ellen) goes missing.
- Chapter 2 – Build up – Ask character (Warlock) for help. Princes ride off and never return. Main character (Brave Rowland) sets off to find missing character (Lady Ellen).
- Chapter 3 – Problem – Main character (Brave Rowland) cannot find the Villain and must fulfil tasks along his journey. Finds missing character (Lady Ellen) and meets Villain (King Elf).
- Chapter 4 – Resolution – Main character (Brave Rowland) defeats the Villain (Elf King). Forces him to release trapped characters (Lady Ellen and Princes).
- Chapter 5 – Ending – Main character (Brave Rowland) returns home and all is well.
You will
need to embellish this and add in your own details.
When you
have completed your homework, ask whoever you were retelling the story to to
complete the slip so that you can return it to school.
Spellings (20mins):
These should be practised for a short
time each day, using the words given in sentences. This week we are looking at
root words and prefixes. Make sure you understand what each prefix means (group
one re, dis and mis, group two, sub, anti and auto) and make sure you
understand how the root word changes when you add a prefix.
You need to:
• look at each word
• say the word
• copy the word in first space
• cover the words and try to write it
from memory
• check to see if they are right
