Year 4 Homework Week 4

Date set 7th October 2016

Date due in 14th October 2016

Reading (every day)

Please write in your reading diary when you have read.

Maths (20mins):

  • Our topic this week is data handling with a focus on bar charts and line graphs. Maths homework will be posted on the Mathletics website. Please ask your teacher for a paper copy if you need one or if you have trouble logging on.
  • Please also practise your times tables. This week I need to practise my _____x table.

Literacy (20mins):

Over the next few weeks we will be writing explanation texts about the digestive system, which is our science topic. For your homework please research the organs of the digestive system and the journey food takes through our bodies.

During your research take notes. Please do not simply copy information-it must be in your own words in note form. You do not need to write in full sentences. There will be information on the blog to help you, but please make your notes on paper, as you will need them in class.

Spellings (20mins)

These should be practised for a short time each day, using the words given in sentences.

You need to:

 • look at each word

• say the word

• copy the word in first space

• cover the words and try to write it from memory

• check to see if they are right

• then cover, write and check again

  1. The Digetsive System...
*We chew and swallow our food
*Saliva (or spit) makes the food soft and gooey
*First the food travels through your oesophaugus (a tube that pushes food down to the stomach)
*Food enters the stomach and mixes with juices
*These juices are acids which break down food
*Then into the small and large intestine
*A day or more later, it comes out as poop and wee!
*The liver collects nutrients from the food for the body to use
*The gall bladder and pancreas send juices to intestines
*To help with digestion along the way too

  2. The main parts of your body that take part in digestive systems are
    teeth
    tongue
    glans
    oesophagus
    stomach
    intestines
    rectum
When we eat food, the teeth will grind into small pieces and it will be disgusting and they will mix into saliva.Saliva has a little bit of acid which helps digest the food. And the food will turn into energy but apart from bad food. Our body then absorb the energy the energy from the food. And the remaining part of the food is waste. The waste food goes down to the intestine and to the rectum. And the waste food will turn into poo.

    1. Your description of the digestive system is a little brief Sreh you need more detail to help with your writing in science and literacy.
